FINALLY Catching up - January

Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012: Un-decorating sucks...not only is it a HUGE pain and a HUGE mess, but then the house looks so bare and empty :( I have the BEST sister though :)

My sister stayed over New Years and she was such a HUGE help with getting my Christmas decorations down and reorganized in the mechanical room. We had fun reminiscing about the year we left the decorations up well into January and there was a fire in one of the apartment buildings next to ours. Although our building was fine, the best way to get to the other building was through ours. THEN a news van drove into the parking lot and was setting up to shoot pointing DIRECTLY at our apartment – Man, that tree came down SO fast! Nothing like fireman motivation.

Friday, Jan. 6, 2012: Long, long week...no rest this weekend though...tournaments both days and LOTS of work to get done before Monday :(

Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012: Lo-Ma 6th grade girls played really tough today! Its so neat to see how much so many of them have developed over the last couple of years.

The girls played REALLY well and got 4th place at a tournament in Council Bluffs – last year they came in like last, so they’ve improved SO much!
----

Just bought future relaxation for under $150! Two trips (although we'll have to sit through 1 time share presentation)

In between games and before lunch, we decided to waste some time at the Bass Pro shop in Council Bluffs. We were just wandering when a guy walked up to us about a contest for a truck – okay sure, we’ll sign up. In the next few moments he sold us not one trip, but TWO! We’re such suckers. Our first trip will be to Wisconsin Dells, WI which we’ll take the kids and have to sit through a boring timeshare presentation. Luckily, Mr S is pretty strong-headed, so I think we’ll make out okay. Once we finish that presentation, they’ll hand us two cruise tickets for a Caribbean cruise!! So although it’s not booked yet, we’re looking forward to some pretty neat trips in the next year or so.

Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012: What's more painful than a broken tailbone? Having a broken tailbone AND throwing out your lower back/hip while lifting laundry. Well, now I have no excuse for moving the rest of the day :(

Well, at least I didn’t fall again….I was putting a load of the kids jeans in the washer and as I bent and lifted them up, I threw my back out. Luckily that seems to be healed now, but what a painful week.

Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012: Roll Tide Roll! SO glad they rubbed out stupid LSU :)

Okay, although this isn’t very much about us – I had to leave this in. I was SO happy the stupid ex’s and her husband’s team lost. Sadly, they’ve brainwashed TS2 and he bet Mr S they’d win. So, when he lost the bet, he had to run two laps up and down our hill (which is over a mile and a half). Funny thing was when they were making the bet he had to tell his dad that going up and down the hill in one of the vehicles didn’t count :)

Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012: Kitty is SO funny! He's freaking out about the mating birds on planet earth :)

Mr S FINALLY opened the Plant Earth disks I bought him LAST Christmas and the kitten was so funny about the animals on tv. One minute he was sleeping on Mr S, then he woke up and started watching while still laying on Mr S. A couple minutes later he went to the end of the couch and you could see his little head bopping with the birds. Finally he jumped off and was on his hind legs right near the tv trying to see them :)

Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012: Long day...work...shopping...eye doctor for JrMsS...waited over an hour for her to learn to put in contacts (poor baby has my bad eyes-they have to special order contacts for her)...more shopping...unloaded groceries...decorated...planted...now resting :)

It was a long day. The girls and I left early and went into my work for about two hours, fought our way through Sams Club in Omaha (ugh – never again! Only the Council Bluffs Sam’s for us!), then took JrMsS to the eye doctor. One of our deals for playing basketball after December was that I would take her to get her contacts earlier than March (we were going to make her wait until she turned 12). Anyway, the poor kid has really bad eyes like me and her contacts had to be special ordered (in fact we just picked them up on Wednesday – she’s so happy with them).
Monday, Jan. 16, 2012: I came home tonight to LMS watching Golden Girls. Her description of the show: it's a show all about these funny grannies throwing a b-day party for a girl - think tvguide would use that? :)

Kids say the darnedest things :)

Friday, Jan 20, 2012: I need sleep...tomorrows a long day - wrestling tournament, softball practice and date night :) looking forward to doing nothing Sunday

Long day - wrestling tournament in Glenwood (like an hour + from our house), JrMrS did really well at his first Jr High match. LMS and I left early to pick up JrMsS from a sleepover and run back up to Logan for softball practice (indoors). We sadly didn’t have the right time though and only a few people were there. After Mr S got home, we left the girls for the first time at night for a long period and decided to do date night since he was going to be out of town for two weeks! It was fun, I was disappointed in the restaurant (it was good – it just wasn’t what I was expecting).

Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012: Had a nice date night with the hubby - although disappointed in Cantina Laredo (I think they changed their menu from the 1 I went to in Chicago to appeal to the midtown-goer people) :( Had fun at the Edge though - especially the people-watching (amazing the types of people that come into a small town bar). Now- please speed up time so that two weeks flies by and my honey is back home.

Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012: Made "skinny" Mac n cheese soup tonight. Kids loved it so much they had seconds! :)

I love Gina’s Weight Watcher recipes (I’m actually making another tonight). I was a little unsure about springing this on the kids, but it went over great and was more yummy than I thought it would be.

Friday, Jan. 27, 2012: Anybody know of a great job opportunity for someone hardworking, great and with lots of admin experience in the Omaha/council bluffs area?

My sister had a small inkling that something may be changing with her job, but she felt secure an didn’t start looking at other opportunities. So at the end of a Friday, the jerks laid her off (not to mention it was the end of the month so her health insurance was going to run out). I feel really bad – it really sucks they way they ended things. My friends and sister-in-law have been awesome though helping her with leads in the organizations/circles they’re in.

Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012: Went a little crazy tonight - sister, girls and I went bowling :p

Even after the evening before, my sister came up to help me with the girls (they needed to be in two towns at the same times). Since Mr S was still gone and the boys decided to switch weekends with their dumb mom, we decided to have girls night to cheer her up. As much as my sister is NOT a small-town girl, I talked her into staying in town and we tried out the bowling alley we’ve never been too. Lets just say it was interesting….we had fun though and hopefully doing stuff helped to get her mind off of things.

Great job today Lo-Ma 6th grade girls! Keep playing better and better!

Runner-up @ Harlan today. Great job girls!!!

They really did do awesome. Last year at this tournament they didn’t do very well, so getting 2nd was great! Plus, JrMsS was so cute about the trophy – it’s her first ever and she’s put it in a very prominent spot in her room.

And that pretty much gets us to today! :)
